Consumers love “themed” burgers – but flavor preferences vary depending on age and gender. Research shows that men are more likely to favor bold or spicy burgers, such as Cajun or Southwest. Women show a preference for Hawaiian- and Asian-themed burgers. Diners aged 18-34 are interested in “globally inspired” burger themes, while older customers heavily prefer familiar flavor profiles, such as Philly.

What does this research mean for your menu?
Be sure to consider your demographic before adding some of the more on-trend burger varieties to your menu. No matter who’s coming to your restaurant, though, there’s room to be creative and still cater to their preferences. Today’s “better burger” trend, including the use of upscale ingredients with traditional burgers, appeals to diners of all ages.
